About the Choir

Sheffield Music Makers is a choir for anyone who loves choral singing across a wide range of styles from classical through to folk to musicals and more.

Since 2022 our musical director has been Georgina Hulse, who began singing at the age of nine as a chorister at Sheffield Cathedral. In 2006 she founded Doncaster Minster Girls’ Choir and went on to study music at Manchester University, where she conducted the Catholic Chaplaincy Choir.

Since leaving university she has taught singing privately, was appointed Chorister Tutor at St John’s Church, Ranmoor in 2017 and runs sight reading workshops for Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus.

Our accompanist since 2022 has been Graham Wilkinson.

While we recently acquired a new name and musical director, Sheffield Music Makers retain a strong link with David Clover, who founded City of Sheffield Teachers’ Choir in 1968.

The make-up of the choir has changed over the years and our members now come from all walks of life (although teachers are still welcome, of course!) So, when we were recently left a generous bequest by a former choir member, we decided to “fix the name”. This new website is one of the results of the bequest.

Our new name also ensures an enduring link with David Clover, who dedicated his life to singing and musical education. Sheffield Music Makers was the name of one of his choirs for children.
