Welcome
Welcome to the website of Sheffield Music Makers, one of the city’s oldest established choirs (founded in 1968 as Sheffield Teachers’ Choir).
We’ve had a busy and hugely usual enjoyable autumn so far with two very successful events to look back on with great satisfaction.
First came our David Clover Festival of Singing Showcase, where we shared a stage at Holy Trinity Church, Millhouses with the winners of the 2024 Competition, as well as the Lodge Moor Children’s Choir.
Then, most recently, Bents Green Methodist Church was the venue for our Come and Sing Day, an event organised by Shefield Music Makers but open to allcomers. Close to 70 singers turned up for what proved to be a hugely enjoyable day of harmonising and socialising.
Musical director Georgina Hulse, with organ accompaniment from Graham Wilkinson, put the choir through its paces as we learned the music from a selection of choruses from Handel’s Messiah during the morning and afternoon, with an informal performance for family and friends at the end.
Now, of course, we are looking forward to our Christmas programme which this year involves three different festive events. We will be singing carols at Whirlow Hall Farm Christmas Fayre on Saturday 23 November between 1.30pm and 2pm.
Sheffield Music Makers’ Christmas Concert is on 7 December at 3.30pm at Bents Green Methodist Church, with a programme of traditional and local carols and some seasonal readings too.
We wrap up our Christmas programme with a selection of Christmas carols at Sheffield Winter Garden on Saturday December 14 between 1pm and 3pm.
New singers are always welcome, we rehearse every Thursday evening during school term times at Saint Mary’s Church Bramall Lane, Sheffield between 7pm and 9pm. Whether you used to be in a choir and want to re-engage, or you have never sung in a choir but always wanted to, now is the perfect time for new members to join us.
You will be made very welcome, there are no auditions, sheet music is provided, sight reading is not essential, and the first term is free. What are you waiting for? So come along and join us soon. See our joining page for more information on joining the choir.
