Welcome

Sheffield Music Makers entertaining Christmas shoppers in Sheffield Winter Garden, December 2024.

After a successful and very well received Spring Concert at Oughtibridge Chapel, where we performed works by Faure, Britten, Mozart and more, Sheffield Music Makers are stepping into summer with a new set of songs as we focus on our final concert before the summer break.

We are excited and delighted to be performing a brand new choral work called Twelve Trees, which is inspired by trees, history, folklore and traditional music from the British Isles.

Written by Katy Lavinia Cooper and Catriona Downie, each piece aims to be a glimpse into another time or tradition, often telling the stories of trees still living that have borne witness to extraordinary events, and of those that have inspired stories and beliefs still a part of our lives today – even though we may not realise why!

The music comes courtesy of Sing For Pleasure, which was founded in 1964 as the British branch of the international ‘A Coeur Joie’ movement, which aims to encourage the enjoyment of choral singing at all levels.

We hope you can join us for our summer concert, on Saturday 12 July at 7pm at Bents Green Methodist Church, Knowle Lane, Sheffield S11 7PU. Tickets £10 (free for under-18s) available on the door or from a member of the choir.

Sheffield Music Makers are one of the city’s oldest established choirs (founded in 1968 as Sheffield Teachers’ Choir).

We rehearse every Thursday evening during school term times at St Mary’s Church, Bramall Lane, Sheffield between 7pm and 9pm. We had a fantastic response to our recent Bring A Friend To Choir evening and new singers are always welcome.

Whether you used to be in a choir and want to re-engage, or you have never sung in a choir but always wanted to, now is the perfect time for new members to come and join us.

There are no auditions, all sheet music is provided, sight reading is not essential, and the first term is free. So, what are you waiting for? Come along and join us soon. See our joining page for more information on joining the choir.
